I know you all love my movies, especially Patriot, so heres another BENBOBBY special! ;)

Nothing looks like real game play. It's cuts and splices of shots that hit and nothing more. No drama to the effort, no taking a loss, no actual movement without the cut and splice. No triumphant overcoming of a well noted, in the video, foe. No carrying of the fight of good versus evil. Just an expose' of trying to make ones self look like super soldier.

So allow me to set the scene; once upon a time on a stormy January morning SAS and Russian Spetznaz forces were locked in stalemate battle in a bleak part of the world known as Ghost Town. One cunning Russian solider tried to breach the SAS defences by flanking in an inflatable boat. A decorated medic solider by the name of BENBOBBY in an act of self less heroism crushed the enemy threat in an explosive ending. Its a story of good verses evil with one man overcoming the all odds to emerge triumphant. lol ;)

Really I just fancied producing a quick BF2 movie with maximum quality and creating something a bit different than a typical fragmovie. Also experimented with some depth of focus and adding 3D objects. Recorded with FRAPs at 90fps, 1280x720 and highest graphics settings. Encoded as MP4 using X264 codec. Unfortunately it came out a little jittery.

First time Ive played Battlefield in a few months. Id forgetten how dusty and laggy it was! lol

Bobby, I have to give you credit on this one. This is the second time you've put together an incredible lead in as though a feature length movie was about to start. I half expected James Bond to arrive below level someplace, tossing his hat with a perfect accuracy onto the across the room hat rack, as he says hello to Money Penny, and envisioned that was who threw the grenade. Oh, and that had to be the luckiest grenade toss I've seen in a long time. LOL

Here's the lines:

Money Penny: James! Good to have you back. How's your day?

Bond: A bit fragmented. Is he in?

Money Penny: Yes, but I'd suggest a subtle approach. Someone was apparently playing a naval battle today and the Minister is demanding answers. He's expecting you.

Bobby, you're improving. No gratuitous blood splatter, no endless splices of shots, and at least some sort of a plot. A little over kill for the intro looking video only, but would be terrific for a feature length action/drama story. Well done on the special effects for the accreditation. Not over the top and catchy.

Be careful of the slow-mo. It came out perfect this time, but it is very selective as to where it can be applied. Worked great this time in viewing this as an intro for a feature length movie and it can be used in setting up a mental flash back scene such as in your character reiterating a traumatic event. After that though it will loose it's positive effect and the movie industry has often over used it to their detriment.

By the way, if you have any thought at all of actually going forward on an actual business level or selling talent you really need to get that logo and business name you created copyrighted and trademarked if you haven't done so already.

Haha I like your imagination John, and thanks for the critique. Glad to hear that Im improving.

I definitely agree with you about the slow-mos, they can ruin the pace of the movie if used too frequently. It seemed to go with the music this time though. :)

I think we shall always disagree on our taste of gaming movies however! When you mention your complains of "endless splices of shots". Take Haddows101s sniper movie for example (http://www.peacemakercore.com/showthread.php?t=6151). Dont you watch it and think "Wow" at some of those crazy shots he pulls off? Its a chance to be entertained by the skill of another player, just like a montage of best bits from any other 'sport'.

You seem to be craving a proper narative story, and people do make them with scripts, staged kills and actors etc. Personally I dont find it very engaging watching a bunch of computer characters for 10-15 mins. Plus they take a lot longer to produce.

So I tried to make this movie a blend of both, with real kills but shot and edited in a more cinematic way. :)

Ben.

P.S. Id say that nade was 70% skill, 30% luck! I purposely waited for the boat to come round and intended for it to bounce off the bank...

Creating a story of hardship and triumph is key to a good battle movie. In fact most movies are done this way as it sets the audience into the action with the hope of good vanquishing evil. Simply ageless in story telling and for good reason. There are a handful of Battlefield 2 movies out there that don't really do justice to either the capability of BF2 in this realm or they don't do justice to movie making abilities that do exist. You have the talent if you apply yourself. Sure, it will take work, bu the reward could be advancing yourself a career and notoriety.

Going back to the Haddows, no, a frag is still a frag and deserves to be fragged. It's nothing more than cut and splice bragging that doesn't really garner return views. That, I'll call it an intro, that intro you made had gotten how many people to watch it over and over again? There's your proof. There are presently 36 hits on this thread with just your original post and my first reply. We don't even have 36 members in PC! People outside of Peacemaker have seen this and there are return visits. My advice, make that movie and put your heart into it.

As for your LUCKY grenade toss, how many retakes did you go through, or how many different clips did you go through, to find the right one for that shot? LOL

LUCK! :D

Thanks, Ill take that into consideration with future movies. I think a good balance is a cinematic intro and then into the normal frags montage with some nice editing.

Is every goal just a goal in soccer? Some players have the flare and skill to take shots that no one else in the world can make. Same goes for computer gamers. I cant speak for Haddows, but the main reason I create fragmovies is because I enjoy the process of making them and to entertain, not to showoff exactly. If viewers are impressed by my kills then its a nice bonus! Im glad this video is popular here, but compared to my other videos its not so. When I posted my old Sweet Dreams video on YouTube in December (I previously couldnt do so) it received 1500+ views in the first 5 days! This one only has 220. Could argue that this one isnt long enough but still.

Haha. No retakes - its not staged and was the first nade I threw. Played BF2 for the first time in months on Friday night, got that kill and thought it might be good for a movie. So I recorded the Battlerecorder footage on Saturday afternoon then edited it together and uploaded it Sunday morning. :)

Bobby, you're missing the point. Good movie making is dependent upon the style and effort you put into it. Running just this intro and expecting the same returns or more from something a bit more involved is unrealistic.

If you do go forward with an attempt take a little advise on this. Talent you have, but don't go with the sheep who have made other BF2 movies by way of setting the stage in script before the movie starts. Let the movie tell the story the same as any great movie does. I'd suggest something along the lines of covert operations and using BF2 Special Forces for better effects. Maybe something along the lines of a rescue or maybe a kidnapping of an enemy general from behind the lines. Possibly a kidnapping of a terrorist leader. Use your imagination. You could use as little as "Afghanistan: Present day" as all the written info needed and then let the story dialog and action tell the rest of the story. You could do it in something maybe of the style of "The Green Beret" or maybe something of a James Bond style. Just a template for a first time effort.

Don't sell yourself short. Frags are frags. If you turn out a really great production it's going to be seen and then word of mouth does the rest for you. That same word of mouth might be what's limiting your exposure now. YouTube is a big place. Your view count isn't exactly high for YouTube, but you've posted so much of earlier video that takes in account of less learnedly capability that it might be holding you back until you do put up a really good one. It's possible that your earlier movie with more views detracted from people wanting to see this one.

It's also possible that this one was a great intro, but lacked a feature length movie to go with it. Interest sags on such notes. Make a top notch movie and the view hits will roll in and long after BF2 is old news. Shucks! If it's good I'll even stump for you on it.

Thanks, I appreciate the ideas. Mashtuur City would certainly lend itself well to a Afghanistan story. Could be a future project for when I have more time to do it properly. Or even use the new Battlefield Bad Company 2 game. Have you ever thought about making movies yourself? You obviously have the vision, and a server and clan members who Im sure would be willing actors. If you needed any advice on the recording/editing side Id be happy to help out.

True. Though my personal movies will never get that many hits because Im not a top player. However, my editing has already gained some notoriety. Im currently working on three intros/movies for pro (as in get paid to play games lol) players - Waki, Reflex and Diablo. The last is one of, if not the best COD4 players in the world. His last movie was the highest rated fragmovie on the Vault and has well over 500,000 hits! Ive also had requests from other players and from clans to make videos to promote thier servers.

I'd like to see this remade in BF3 when that comes out.
