Greetings. :)

This is going to be a rather long post, but please bear with me as I try to explain the circumstances.

I should probably begin with a little background information: For the past week or so I have been struggling to get my newly purchased copy of Battlefield 2 to function properly. I have had no end of issues, most, I suspect, arising from the fact that I am trying to run the game on a Vista-equipped laptop connected via a wireless router.

A couple of days ago I visited one of your servers (85.236.101.83:16667 - *PC* INFANTRY ONLY) under the name of [DCON] JensLynIV. A couple of minutes or so into the fight the server was paused in order to carry out bans, and I found myself on the receiving end of one. Rather than take a screenshot, I hit alt+F4 out of sheer frustration.

Here's what I remember of the incident: After updating PunkBuster I logged onto your infantry server and spawned as a sniper on the MEC team. I ran about for a bit and was killed. I spawned again, and the server was paused. A player was banned, with the reason "no hash" being given. Next, I was banned, also for "no hash". This is when I closed BF2. Two days later I joined your server to have a look at the ban message. The following reason was given: "You have been banned from the server by a server admin or because of excessive teamkilling." This is somewhat puzzling as I cannot recall killing anybody, friend or foe, during my brief visit.

I find myself wondering what "no hash" means, why a player was banned just before me for the exact same reason, why I am apparently now listed as a teamkiller, and whether my ban was caused by a problem on my end.

This is where I need your help: Can someone please
explain to me, in layman's terms, what "no hash" means,
explain the reasoning behind the "excessive teamkilling" notice,
and possibly shed some more light on the circumstances surrounding my ban?

I realise you may look at this very differently, but I believe that I am innocent of any wrongdoing. Regardless, I would like to apologise for any inconvenience I may have caused. Rest assured that I had no intention of disrupting the gameplay or otherwise causing trouble for the admins. I hope that you are able/willing to shed some more light on this as I would love nothing more than to get my BF2 install to behave itself and perhaps have my good name restored. As a representative of the Desert Conflict (DCON) mod team I have an obligation to act in an appropriate manner everywhere I go, but I fear that I may have inadvertently tarnished DCON's reputation by getting into this mess.

Thank you in advance
Jens Lyn IV

We did on ban you. You showed no hash on your name and that we do ban for. I am sorry that we did that so please fore give us if we did something wrong. You did team kill 3 people and that you should of been kicked for. So i hope that you come back on and play with us. thank you enforcer24.

Thank you for the quick reply.

If I did indeed TK 3 people then I am truly sorry. Please accept my sincere apology.

Can you think of any reason why I would show no hash on my name? (And what does that mean?) I really don't want this to happen again, and I suspect it will if the "no hash" thing is caused by something on my end...

Thank you

Firstly, thank you for appealing the ban. You have been reinstated and we regret any problem.

I remember the paused server incident as it is the only time that our server has ever been paused.

Teamkilling kick results from a server side limit on T/K and once this is reached you are automatically kicked.

The occasion when you were banned was a particular bad attack on our server {which resulted in the game pause}. May I first explain that every player has a hash key and certain hackers have the capability that when in a game the hack makes other players hash keys vanish and the longer they are in the more hash keys vanish thus making it harder for them to be detected through BF2CC
In our efforts to protect our regular clients we took prompt action to secure the rest of the players and this is how you were wrongly kicked.
You can do nothing about these people and we generally have players in game as well as outside watching for this scum.

Now you know how honest we are you could enlist.:}

That was exactly the reply I was hoping for Sparhawk. Thank you very much for your explanation. If I understand you correctly, I was more or less in the wrong place at the wrong time.

Something like this (http://www.bf2cc.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=15&t=5299)?

Thanks for the offer. You seem like a great bunch, but I just don't intend to play vanilla BF2 much except to determine whether my install is working correctly. The only reason why I got BF2 was to play Desert Conflict, and once I have confirmation that BF2 is working I am going to install DCON and play that exclusively.

But if you don't mind I might log on tonight to see if BF2 will behave itself.

Well it seems all is well. I played one round on the infantry server, apparently without any issues.

Thanks again.
