As you all know our server went off line last week with no notice. After contacting Hypernia I was informed that they no longer offer colocation for our server, so I have had this posted to Yoosty. Whereupon we will decide what will be done with it at a later date.
We have rented a server package from Multiplay in the interim for a 3 month period to see if this unit will actually support it, if not I will just be giving up as the constant asking for donations has started to affect my game play and home life.
I dont like asking for donations and have spent thousands keeping this unit going in the past.
Basically, this unit has to look at the fact that on-line gaming has changed since mechwarrior. games can no longer be hosted on home machines and some services have to be paid for and on a monthly basis.
This new server set up which can be switched to any Battlefield game easily is my last effort for PC for I am tired of...
a} lack of server support when we try to get games going
b} The donations ritual I have to go through each month
c} The effort that some are willing to put in trying to make this unit a go while others seemingly sit on the sidelines laughing their asses off at those that are trying.
d} The lack of use of the forums and people joining them shows a total lack of interest by some

Hey guys, i know i ain't been around lately but i'd like to weigh in on this if thats ok. Calv i certainly see ur point and agree, people able but not willing to help should probably be booted. But what about people UNable to pay, I being one of them. I'm 22 and in college with no source of income living off student loans, birthday money, and mommy n daddy. I LOVE to help but i just cant. I joined this group cuz i knew yas from mech and because you were the only unit not requiring a 20 dollars a month fee. If i need to be removed because i cant pay it seems a lil unfair, but fine its yalls unit, u make the rules. However i have another point of view. As Spar said, times have changed. To play online u need dedicated servers. Now, when there BF league was being created there was a need for units to have their own servers for practice and league matches. Now unfortunately the league is gone, so why exactly are we paying for servers when theres THOUSANDS of other servers we can use. THATS why our own servers are dead, its far easier to jump into more populated places. Before you consider kicking people out, consider this first. Shut down the Peacemaker Core game servers and leave the website and com servers up. It'll reduce your costs and make things far easier to support by those who ARE donating. My bottom line is this. Why hold on to servers that are unused and have remained unused despite pleas to try n get em going. Id say we cut our losses and be a unit where people can join and have fun playing as a team in a team oriented game. We don't need our own servers for that. And heck, u can probably use some old junk computer to host ventrilio coms. I far prefer playing w/ you guys than jumping into a server and join some random squad(that is whenever i have time to play).

My input to this topic:

I found this unit after working on the website. There were problems which happened a while back but I was brought on as a direct source of work instead of the middle man. Then after working with Calv and Spar I become to realise what good people they are. So I asked to join, and respectably they accepted my application.

Now I was told that it was not a life threatening thing to donate, but to be a valued member you had to donate. I had no problem with that. I guess I can say that because I am "loaded" as some people say. But I am a tight ass. (Calv can confirm this :D). But still I donate when it's needed, If it was needed I could donate in the hundreds, but I was told there was no need. I should spread the money out through the months and let other members give their donation. So I did and have done. I've donated 2 months on the trot. I'm not out of pocket. 2 Months have cost me $15 (£8!)!!!. Man I could find that at school if i looked on the floor everyday.

The lack of donations and help also affects other members as Calv was saying. I don't feel this way but, other members who are donating and support the unit in whatever way possible will start saying, "Why the hell am I donating when he isn't, I shouldn't have to bother". It does affect other members of the unit.

Now the issue of people not being able to donate is a different matter. Being the way I am I would say pay your way (pay or find somewhere else). But members who have stuck with the unit since MechWarrior (I don't know much about this) or do support the unit by playing on the server(s) and using the website, should be given a chance to maybe find some cash they can donate when they can.

So far I see 4 members which have donated this month. I won't stop donating or supporting the unit but I feel other members soon will. I mean even $1, $2, or $3 shows that you want to help. This is what the donations mean. The bonus is that it helps Spar and Calv to pay for the things that most members are taking for granted.

I can't really make the decision to boot people from the clan but if I could I would be booting the members who you never see on comms and people who won't donate because they won't.

As for the server being "un-used" as people are saying. "Go and use other servers", this comment just contridicts yourself about activity. How do you think these other server become active. They had dedicated members who were willing to help and support their server(s). Think about it for one minute! Thats why we say Hey jump on our server lets get it going. We don't say it just to sound good and to say ooo we have 6 players. Theres a reason , just think about all those things and make your decision.

I can see no real benefit to doing this Fenix. Alot of our current comms regulars came from the few times our server was up and running. if we stop actively recruiting we will just vanish slowly but surely and I have to be totally honest I can not see why any member of this unit can not afford a buck twenty five a week. Its not like I am asking the earth, $5 compared to what some put in is nothing but in the end its the principal.
But to not try and get our servers up and running AND not to donate is basically a piss take of all the years I have put the money in personally to keep this unit going.
I work like everyone else and earn far far less than some who wont even bother to donate

Id just like to be clear that i am not unwilling to help at all. I posted a donation that came from my leftover student loan money. While i am unable to play on a consistent basis. I will try to do what i can to support PC. I think its been said but the problem probably stems from ppl thinking well, im never on to use the services of this unit, so i shouldnt hafta pay. I say to that, why the hell are u in this unit. If yas want a unit ta come to, ya gotta be willin ta help support it. Id estimate that 5 dollars from every member registered, active or semi-active would cover the costs. So come on guys, stop making spar and calv and yoosty and whoever else carry the burden that as a unit we should all share. Im pretty much never online, but i still wanna support the only unit that i'd ever wanna play with.

p.s.-this may seem like a lil switch from my last post. but ive given it thought since and after reading these lengthy posts by calv (:P) ive come to this opinion.
