Theres so much credit about nowadays that compared to years ago when you had to save to get what you wanted and collectors came around to your door.
I was just listening to the radio about people who used to come around to various homes there was....
the pools man
Insurance man
A man who used to put your savings away (used to put a litte away each for school clothes for kids)
rag and Bone man
Pop man
The man that sharpened your knives etc
coal man
can you think of any others but one thing strikes me as a major difference people then never spent what they couldnt afford...a far simplier life I suppose.
Footnote...
No sarcastic comments about my age either YOU!!!!!.and you know who I am talking to as well....

I miss the neighbor kids who would mow my lawn. I miss the fresh milk in the morning. Still have a knife-guy here thou. Insurance salesman going away was a good thing and i hate the Avon ladies. I think they are still around, too. :) Yes, Tony, it really has happened. The future has arrived and it is even more intense and surealistic than ever before. 21st century. New millenium. Unparalled recorded globalization. Massive political, social, and economic changes. All what we were told. Minus the flying cars. :) And it may be an american holiday, but happy thanksgiving. Happyness counts for us all. :)

Shows how much our knife man made if he moved to where you live Mikey...:]
Its 6 am here at the moment and the central heating hasnt come on...........ITS BLOODY FREEZING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thats one thing I dont miss is getting up and laying the fire, cleaning it out then waiting for it to warm the water and the living room.
Even though coal fires are lovely and homely once lit. I will take the modern way first, I no longer wish the good old way in this instance

I think nowadays, that even though you recieve many advantages in being young you have also missed alot in the form of other things.
Kids are not kids long enough anymore. Sex education in schools just causes problems in my eyes, its not really stopping people doing it.
kids games were fun, not made around bought items, its sad when you have to bring in a team to teach kids how to skip and to use there imaginations. To a kid a stick could instantly be a gun, a tent was made from the clothes maiden and a blanket and gave you a den and hours of fun. Nowadays kids need to actully own the item to get anything from it
Sometimes you just have to work your way through things, yes even bullying. Its a tough thing to say but you either learn to avoid them, hit them back often enough (until they learn that you are willing to stand up for yourself- even bullies respect that much) while verbal bullying is something you have just learn to adapt to...as long as you react to name calling the bullies won. If they see it doesent bother you they will stop.....if they get the reaction they are after they will do it more.
The kids at my wifes school were amazed when she shown them hopscotch.
i used to enjoy games like british bulldog, tickie off the ground, hide and seek, tag (both using a ball and not) spin the bottle, true dare kiss command or promise. the girls played cats cradle a hand tapping game and many others. We went out with our mates played football, had fights and made up quickly afterwards and all these cost parents NOTHING. You dont have to buy a kid summat for them to have a good childhood.
what kids need nowadays more than anything apart from love is structure and discipline. without these 2 key elements you result in problems that cause harm both to the kid and others.
Education, I think this and any govt needs to get people doing the basic 3 Rs before anything. In fact if they took the system back 40 years alot would benefit.
Immigration..dont even go there with me
Political correctness...load of bollocks. If ANY party said we are a christian peoples and we will get this country working for its own I would vote for them and if anyone wants a row about this please post
:)

Due to the riots that may embrace our country if i spoke outloud, I will remain silent.
Many have said I should go into politics. I have refrained because I think I would kill them all.
Tradition is being lost and with it all family and social values. Enough said, welcome to the new age of chaos, selfishness, laziness, incompetence, perversion and self loathing, amongst others.
But, personally nah enough said I aint got 10 years to write this thread.

The really really sad thing is that many feel as we dont and never ever voice their opinions as they lack courage and fortitude
